Former Victorian premier Jeff Kennett says the state government needs to come clean about its failures managing the coronavirus pandemic – warning the biggest mistake now is the “continuing coverup”.
Sky News host Peta Credlin sat down with the former premier as part of her in-depth look into the state government’s botched hotel quarantine program which led to the deadly second wave.
“I’m never going to say that it’s rotten, but I think the system of government is corrupt,” he said.
“Yes, you make mistakes, the biggest mistake now is the continuing coverup.”
Mr Kennett said responsibility rests with “control freak” Premier Daniel Andrews who has overseen every part of the state government’s strategy.

I still remember how many people Jeff Kennet left unemployed in his government without a Pandemic or any similar reason….Jeff closed primary schools, secondary schools, hospitals and other sources of employment.
He left teachers, medical staff and others stressed without a job.
I still remember how hard it was for me to find a hospital as Jeff decided to close the one I was booked in to give birth to my baby boy just two weeks before his due date. It was very stressful to receive a letter announcing the closure of the hospital only two weeks before as it was as well for many mothers and other patients of that hospital and many other health services that were closed in that time.
In my experience Jeff Kennet has been the worst Premier we have had in Victoria and with this Pandemia for sure (if he was in government) he would have all Victorians with dead relatives and friends …”our loved ones”.
