RULES OF CONDUCT
STAY CIVIL AND POLITE we will delete any comments with personal insults, or attacks.
AVOID PARTISAN POLITICS AS FAR AS YOU CAN we reserve the right to cut off vitriolic debates.
HATE SPEECH IN ANY DIRECTION will lead to a ban.
RACISM, XENOPHOBIA, OR SLAMMING OF MINORITIES will lead to an immediate ban.
PARTISAN REVISIONISM, ESPECIALLY HOLOCAUST AND HOLODOMOR DENIAL will lead to an immediate ban.
THE PROMOTION OF EXTREME, VIOLENT IDEOLOGIES IS ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN This includes the justification, or promotion of ideologies, regimes, and systems that have historically or are inherently contrary to the principles of democracy and human rights. To be clear some of these ideologies are Naziism, Fascism, Colonialism, Imperialism, Leninism, Stalinism, Revolutionary Socialism, Integral Nationalism and any other ideology that promotes authoritarianism, and a disregard for inalienable individual rights as outlined in the UDHR. Regimes that fall under this rule are for example: Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, the British Empire, Colonial France, pre-emancipation USA, Imperial Japan, Communist China, the USSR and any similar systems and regimes. While an academic discussion of these ideologies and regimes is permitted, even desired, any value statements or comparative posts to extoll their positive sides will be deleted, and may lead to a ban.
.
Here’s why:
It is objectively true that the authoritarian regimes we cover in our series, be they far-left or far-right, were willing to use systematic oppression, violence, and murder to create or maintain their preferred system of governance. From the perspective of human rights, democracy, and plain decency, this is clearly unacceptable. Now, that is, of course, a morally absolute statement based on 21st-century morals and ethics. Therefore, in our content, we refrain from any such judgement and just tell the story as it is. We’re concerned only with the past. We don’t take sides, and we don’t decide which side deserves more blame than the other.
Our comment section, however, is not taking place in the past. Our comments are made in the present-day, and political comments such as the ones we don’t allow are promoting a present-day agenda by whitewashing, diminishing, or even justifying the crimes of a past regime. We will not allow for such rhetoric in the same way most democratic European countries (where we create this content) won’t allow for such rhetoric. As historians, our very work depends on this so that we can continue interrogating the past free from political influence.
wish i could afford to support you, great channels
The Soviets were in foreign waters…the US wasn't in Soviet space! Kennedy was just being tested by the Soviets to see what he'd do if threatened by the USSR. It wasn't piracy on th part of the US…I'm not deluding myself that all is at face value but the Soviets found an ally in Castro, who was only too happy to deal with the Cuban enemy, the US.
I highly recommend Blue Moon over Cuba: Aerial Reconnaissance during the Cuban Missile Crisis by William B. Ecker, USN (ret.) Ecker was lead pilot who flew one of the two
Navy RF-8As low-level over Cuba to get those detailed photographs. He would be the source of the comment about General Curtis LeMay pouting in his car during the awards ceremony. Ecker was not a fan of LeMay. Oh, in the book it was a convertible, not a limousine.
I may never recover from seeing that picture of lemay in a bathrobe!
Thanks to the USA, the URSS survived to WW II. Suddenly, the US people realized that Uncle Jo's followers, were not the good guys their wartime medias had said. A bit late, I would say.
I have noticed a change in the background. Two of the drinks have been moved in position. Why is that?
10:18 "US Air Force" I'm pretty sure those were Navy pilots, wearing Navy uniforms in those photos and flying RF-8 Crusaders, which the Navy had but the USAF, to my knowledge, did not.
Good Luck to you Indie… Really love ads
Before we judge Lemay too harshly , please remember Kennedy , McNamara and Johnson killed more Americans than General Curtis Lemay. The Soviets knew SAC was ready to do what ever was necessary 24 hours a day 7 days a week .
Freedom of navigation in international waters!
Lemay was a total piece of shit. Also, just shows you how ridiculous the squabbles of the atomic bombings are, when everyone forgets 5x as many people died to firebombs.
If you travel to Cuba can you visit the sites of the nukes etc you mention and show video /pics of in this series ? just wondering. Am going to Cuba 2021
My distaste for le may just keeps growing
Kinda wanna see that picture of that Cuban stumbling out of his outhouse
Funny enough, when I first saw this, I had literally just watched a video about the movie Battleship, based on the game Battleship. (To hear Indy say at the beginning, "You know the game Battleship?" Well yeah! I think I do! 🙂 )
I was thinking that Russians are bad guys. It seems that I was wrong.
Seeing LeMay has reminded me of something – the DickTionary must be completed! I don't know what TimeGhost has planned, but this is absolutely vital.
Does kruschev at this point know that the OAS signed a treaty-a lawful contract? And if he does is it that he doesn’t realize that the signing of a treaty of the nations that hold those waters in their areas does create legality of the accepted blockade orrr am I wrong completely because as far as I know exclusive economic zones weren’t a thing yet?
I understand that there is limited time but it would have been great to hear about the struggle between the political officer and the captain on the Russian sub and how close they came to launching their "special weapon" https://www.nationalgeographic.com/news/2016/03/you-and-almost-everyone-you-know-owe-your-life-to-this-man/#:~:text=It's%20October%201962%2C%20the%20height,spotted%20by%20the%20American%20Navy.&text=The%20Russian%20in%20question%2C%20an,the%20nuclear%2Dtipped%20missile%20readied.
I just want to comment on the absolute professionalism of the production value of TimeGhost. Just the tiny touches in the background of Indy's set are so spot on.
Another excellent episode. Thanks Indy.
Ok am I going crazy or did I not just watch all these like a few weeks ago??
Nice series here!! However…. forget about those audios if you can't get them better. They just murmle
A close run thing, The Russian withdrew their missiles, for an agreement that the US would not invade again. ( bay of pigs) and withdraw their missiles from Turkey. Dr Strangeglove captures it all, as satire.
