I am not okay with it at all, but literally everyone here in Indonesia uses Whatsapp in business environment. Sure, some people also have Telegram, a lot of people in college and high school still uses Line, and certain companies uses Slack or Teams for their internal communications, but Whatsapp is THE way to communicate between anyone in anything remotely professional. You just have to have it, unless you're important enough people bend over backwards for you.

I think the "free" label is misleading, everything that is free has some cost that isn't money, and that is fine. As long as people know what they are giving up, I don't care if data is being collected
Come on, like it or not zuck is very intelligent he is just doing this to escape from the anti trust lawsuit, what he's doing is proving that he not not a monopoly and people have other options so he clarified WhatsApp policies so that people flee from the app and find alternatives proving that he is not a monopoly. Afterall whatsapp brings least revenue to zuck so it a calculated corporate mave and we have fallen for it for good.

its because Facebook needs other relevant 'products' that feed it our info to keep Facebook relevant and necessary by making it a requirement to have a Facebook account to use their products.
like the main demographics for each product is so they can keep up. Facebook has a older adult demographic trying to keep in touch, Instagram has a teen/ young adult demographic keeping up with the trends, WhatsApp is a communication app so anyone is their demographic and because they have the key to accessible VR they did the same thing to Oculus.
If you want this want that, should pay for it. No free lunch. App Store should stop all the free app.
