AVOID PARTISAN POLITICS AS FAR AS YOU CAN we reserve the right to cut off vitriolic debates.

THE PROMOTION OF EXTREME, VIOLENT IDEOLOGIES IS ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN This includes the justification, or promotion of ideologies, regimes, and systems that have historically or are inherently contrary to the principles of democracy and human rights. To be clear some of these ideologies are Naziism, Fascism, Colonialism, Imperialism, Leninism, Stalinism, Revolutionary Socialism, Integral Nationalism and any other ideology that promotes authoritarianism, and a disregard for inalienable individual rights as outlined in the UDHR. Regimes that fall under this rule are for example: Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, the British Empire, Colonial France, pre-emancipation USA, Imperial Japan, Communist China, the USSR and any similar systems and regimes. While an academic discussion of these ideologies and regimes is permitted, even desired, any value statements or comparative posts to extoll their positive sides will be deleted, and may lead to a ban.
.
Here’s why:
It is objectively true that the authoritarian regimes we cover in our series, be they far-left or far-right, were willing to use systematic oppression, violence, and murder to create or maintain their preferred system of governance. From the perspective of human rights, democracy, and plain decency, this is clearly unacceptable. Now, that is, of course, a morally absolute statement based on 21st-century morals and ethics. Therefore, in our content, we refrain from any such judgement and just tell the story as it is. We’re concerned only with the past. We don’t take sides, and we don’t decide which side deserves more blame than the other.
Our comment section, however, is not taking place in the past. Our comments are made in the present-day, and political comments such as the ones we don’t allow are promoting a present-day agenda by whitewashing, diminishing, or even justifying the crimes of a past regime. We will not allow for such rhetoric in the same way most democratic European countries (where we create this content) won’t allow for such rhetoric. As historians, our very work depends on this so that we can continue interrogating the past free from political influence.
Time Ghost too scared to predict when Andy Garcia is gonna die. I got my money on 2029

The Soviet Union retreated in the Cuba crisis to avoid nuclear war. We can be glad that Stalin was not the Secretary-General of the Soviet Union and that the President of the United States did not listen to the hawks. What if Trump was president?
CJCOS kind of reminds me of the cult General from Metalocolypse who always recommends military action.
Gen. Shoup would later go on to become the most prominent and vocal former miliutary leader opposed to the Vietnam war. As with any retired military leader who speaks out against current policy, he was ostracized and had his loyalty and patriotism questioned. He also openly spoke out against the increasing American militarism and corporate integration with the military establishment.
General Shoupe doesn't swear as much as a marine typically does.

What the hey! Sell Castro some pork futures and buy a couple of sacks of sugar from him – why can't we all get along?
I lived thru this as a junior in high school ( private school far from my home ) we were told in assembly that our leaders would work this out
Our football coach and also our senior English teacher was an Army Ranger on D yes a guy who scaled the cliffs tough as nail all these guys no soy boys here, they knew it was hard on us so far from homes. But they inspired confidence They truly were the adults in the room full of teenage boys who were all in for a war because we had never seen a war like they had…. this brings back many memories
General Curtis LeMay USAF: “You’re in a pretty bad fix Mr. President.” I’ve never liked that feather legged blow hard and that just adds to it. The entire country was in a pretty bad fix, INCLUDING the JCS and their subordinates. He, McNamara, and the Army Ordinance board are who killed so many Soldiers and Marines with the early M-16 in Vietnam a few years later. Douche.
TimeGhost has turned this series up to eleven with the included recorded audio from the actual players in this mad game. Wow.
Ever get to watching history docs on YouTube, and wonder how you spent years in advanced history courses in highschool and never once got taught any of this things…? Just me?
My father worked at Dahlgren Navel Weapons Lab. He was called on an open line and asked to compute effects of nuclear bombs targeted on Cuba, for residents of Guantanamo Bay, Florida/Miami, and Central American. That depends on a lot of things. One of his assumptions in his computation, was "wind heading directly towards" the affected area. Under that scenario, Guantanamo Bay was TOAST.
Wonder is LeMay had an issue with his fluids…
I like how the marine guy talks like a marine.
Do you have any idea what Robert Schelling thought about all these?
Did any of NATO allies have any knowledge of events going on at this stage? Were French or Royal Navies monitoring Cuba at all?
I never knew how insane this event was!
Nice tie tho
I’ve never heard someone say “frig” that much since Randy from Trailer Park Boys. FRIG OFF, DONNA!
Curtis LeMay, what a dick
I love Indy using profanity lol 😛
superb mini series. When you selling to Netflix 🙂
Excellent Episode Indeed. The question I would like to ask , is what was the " The Dangerous Radioactive Sauce " with in the Cuban Bunker Complex to kill so many Russian Service personnel by Radioactivity? Taking into account this is before the Nuclear War Heads for the tactical medium range Missiles even arrived in Cuba ??? Could it have been yet another dodgy portable nuclear reactor leak as most of them did in the Soviet era ???
"Patriotism is a virtue of the vicious." -Oscar Wilde
It's a damn miracle the world survived Nikita Khrushchev
I love the fact that Kennedy admits that the Soviets were able to take Hungary because the West was busy with the Suez crisis. Oh boy what happens if they get busy again?
For those that think we do not need Nuclear weapons to protect our future Think again !!!The only thing that frightens Leaders is their own lives !!!!
They will willingly disregard their own people for their own ends but when it's their lives/families they tend to think again !! Bullies and cowards all of them !!
Off topic but… Can anyone imagine trump weighing options in the manner similar to Kennedy's rational thought process?
Seventeen seconds in and you've nailed it.
It's nuts to think not only how war hungry these generals appear, not only how little they actually care about their troops and the citizens well being, but ultimately how fucking wrong they ultimately are in history.
Are recordings like this still made? They should be.
I wouldn't be surprised if Curtis LeMay carpet bombed his lawn instead of mowing it.
And le may wants to kill everything in sight, big surprise.
That man is really especially unpleasant.
Thank you for including the original audio, it's excelent
